Bookcase Makeover

Hello readers! Today, I would like to share this small bookcase makeover. I purchased this bookcase from Walmart a while ago for about 18 dollars. It’s not of best quality but it was useful. Because it held well for it’s purpose I liked the piece so I gave it a makeover!

I don’t have a picture of what it looked like before so here is one from Walmart’s website.

The bookcase comes with a flimsy cardboard back and it does not make the piece any more sturdy. It really annoyed me especially whenever I would move the bookcase. I decided to make this bookcase more stronger by adding wood. I just simply removed the cheap, flimsy cardboard back and nailed 1×4’s to the back.  We purchased a bulk of 1×4 @ Lowes and cut them to the height of the bookcase. The husband gave them a little sanding and I stained them with Varathane Wood Stain in Sunbleached.  This project was so simple. It’s interesting how you can spruce up an old flimsy bookcase! Don’t mind the gap at the end on the right..apparently we don’t know how to measure 😉 This little bookcase is placed near my sofa. The little basket is great to put the remotes in and the open shelving is a great way to show off some of my newest decor! I’m obsessed with this jug!
